Overview
The Standard Trio test compares the DNA of a child, the alleged father, and the mother to give you a clear, easy-to-read answer for your own peace of mind. Including the mother's sample is the gold standard for at-home testing: it lets the lab subtract the child's maternal DNA and focus precisely on what was inherited from the father, which produces the strongest possible result.
This is a private, informational test. It is not a court-admissible, chain-of-custody test, and the result cannot be used for child support, custody, immigration, or any other legal purpose. For those situations you must use a court-approved test through an accredited lab.
Collection is simple and painless — each person swabs the inside of their cheek for about a minute using the swabs included in your kit.

Accuracy & methodology
When the alleged father is the biological father, an inclusion is reported with a probability of paternity of 99.9% or greater. When he is not the biological father, an exclusion is reported with 100% certainty. Adding the mother's sample, as in this trio test, gives the lab the most information to work with and produces the most conclusive result.
Testing is performed by our accredited partner laboratory using a large panel of genetic markers.

Your privacy & trust
Your privacy matters to us, and DNA information is among the most sensitive personal data there is.

- Results are delivered privately by email and are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing.
- Your DNA data is treated as sensitive personal information. While at-home, informational tests are generally not covered by HIPAA, we handle your results with comparable care.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I use this for child support or custody?
- No. This is an informational, peace-of-mind test only. Its results are not admissible in court. For child support, custody, or immigration you must use a court-approved, chain-of-custody test through an accredited laboratory.
- Do I really need the mother's DNA?
- It isn't strictly required — see our Motherless Paternity test — but including the mother's sample is the gold standard. It produces the strongest, most conclusive result, which is why we recommend the trio when the mother is available.
- How accurate is at-home paternity testing?
- The genetic accuracy is the same as a lab-based test: 99.9%+ for an inclusion and 100% for an exclusion. The difference is the chain of custody, not the science. Because samples are self-collected at home, the result is for personal information only.
- What if a participant won't consent?
- Every adult participant must consent to being tested, and consent rules for minors vary by state. Do not collect a sample from someone who has not agreed to be tested.

Need a legal DNA test?
Need results for a custody case, child support, immigration, or any other legal matter? An at-home test cannot be used for those purposes. You'll need a court-approved, chain-of-custody DNA test performed through an accredited laboratory, where a neutral third party verifies every participant's identity and handles the samples.
